Bengaluru: Kumaraswamy Layout police arrested three persons for assaulting a private college professor recently. The incident occurred after the professor objected to the trio, travelling in an auto, for throwing a plastic glass on the road.
The arrested individuals are Bhanuprasad, 26, Sharath, 23, and Amruth Kumar, 24, all residents of Ittamadu, Padmanabhanagar in Banashankari.
In his complaint, the 46-year-old professor and resident of Whitefield, Arobindo Gupta stated that he was riding a two-wheeler in Kumaraswamy Layout around 4.30pm. A group of four persons were travelling in an auto. When his bike was parallel to them, a person from the auto threw a plastic glass filled with a liquid on the road. He objected to this, which led to an altercation. Three of the four travellers got out of the auto and assaulted him.
After receiving treatment at a hospital, Gupta uploaded a video on social media, explaining the incident. Kumaraswamy Layout police initially registered a non-cognisable register (NCR), and filed an FIR the next day.
A senior police officer said Amruth is the auto driver, while Bhanuprasad and Sharath are his friends who work as food delivery boys. The trio was drunk at the time of the incident. They confessed to throwing plastic glass, which they had used for consuming liquor. Gupta questioned them in English about disposing of waste irresponsibly. The trio intercepted his vehicle and assaulted him. The officer added that there was no regional or language issue involved in the case.
