Udaipur: In a joint operation early Friday morning, the forest department and police gunned down a leopard in Udaipur. Sources suggest this was the same leopard that had claimed the lives of at least 10 people in the past month. The leopard was shot near the Madar area of the city.

Ajay Chittoda, the Divisional Forest Officer, stated that while they believe this was the man-eater leopard, a definitive confirmation can only be made after further investigation.

Rajesh Meena, the Inspector General of Police for Udaipur range, revealed that the leopard had attacked a search team in the forest. In self-defense, the police had to shoot the animal four times. This is the same area where two women were attacked by a leopard just two days prior, resulting in one fatality.

Over the past five days, there had been three separate leopard attacks in the Madar village. On Wednesday, two women working in a field were attacked. One of them, Mangibai, was fatally injured after the leopard attacked her neck. A day earlier, on Tuesday night, the leopard had killed a calf in Paldi village. And three days prior, on Sunday, another calf was killed by a leopard in Badi village. The frequent sightings of leopards in the vicinity had created a climate of fear among the villagers.
