Chinese-born Justin Sun , a crypto billionaire, who feared arrest in the US for years and stayed away from the country, was in Washington Thursday to attend President Donald Trump's gala dinner as a VIP guest. Sun's presence triggered a major backlash as Democrats called the dinner an 'orgy of the corrupts'. The Justice Department was investigating Sun and his company Tron for financial crime. While it's not known whether he is still under investigation, Sun revealed Thursday that he is the largest holder of the president's $TRUMP memecoin.
NYT described Sun walking with an assistant holding an umbrella over his head as he was one of the first guests to arrive at the dinner. He told the NYT that the dinner would be his first meeting with President Trump.
The most exclusive dinner was held at the Trump National Golf Club in suburban Washington, where Trump flew from the White House in a military helicopter. At the entrance of the club, protesters were chanting "shame, shame".
Trump gave a speech and...
The president gave a speech in which he blamed the past administration for going after all the crypto czars. "The past administration made your lives miserable," Trump said. "They were going after everybody. It was a disgrace frankly," Trump said as reported by the NYT.
Fillet mignon and pan-seared halibut were there on the menu along with Trump organic field green salad.
According to a video posted by Sun to Instagram, his investment amounted to $1,319,904.266 in “time weighted $TRUMP holdings.” Sun also posted a video declaring he was awarded a “Trump Golden Tourbillion” watch.
“Donald Trump’s dinner is an orgy of corruption,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said Thursday. “That’s what this is all about. We are here today to talk about exactly one topic: corruption, corruption in its ugliest form.”
“Donald Trump is using the presidency of the United States to make himself richer through crypto, and he’s doing it right out there in plain sight,” she added. “He is signaling to anyone who wants to ask for a special favor and is willing to pay for it exactly how to do that.”
