SRINAGAR: A photo of J&K CM Omar Abdullah, along with his sons Zamir and Zahir, seated alongside top J&K officials has gone viral, prompting criticism from the opposition PDP, which accused the National Conference of promoting "dynasty rule in broad daylight".
"What we see here isn't democracy. It's dynasty rule in broad daylight, a royal bloodline treating governance like a family estate, while institutions meant to uphold democratic values sit silent," PDP spokesperson Mohit Bhan said. Bhan added that the NC was "shamelessly blurring the line between public office and private legacy."
The photo was taken in Pahalgam, where the CM chaired a cabinet meeting Tuesday. However, his sons were not part of the meeting or any official proceedings.
"The photo was taken outside the Pahalgam Club. The cabinet meeting was held inside. The children accompanied their father and grandfather but were not part of any meeting," NC spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said, while accusing PDP of creating an issue because "they have nothing else to talk about."
Bhan, however, said the image of Omar's children seated alongside ministers and top officials is a "grotesque mockery of democratic institutions." "The inclusion of CM's children in official meetings insults the very institutions meant to serve J&K's people," he said.
