SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor on Wednesday directed for a security audit of infrastructure projects , and strengthening of measures to ensure the safety of workers engaged in construction of various projects.

The directions came at a review meeting on the security situation in Kashmir division in the wake of Sunday’s terror attack at a labour camp near a tunnel construction site at Gagangir in Ganderbal district , which claimed seven lives, including that of a doctor. Pakistan based terror outfit The Resistance Force , an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed to have gunned down the workers, and warned of more such targeted attacks.

During the review meeting held at Raj Bhavan, LG Sinha asked police to take stringent measures to tighten the security grid around key infrastructure projects and construction camps for safety of workers, set up round-the-clock nakas at strategic points, and intensify night patrolling and area domination. He also stressed upon establishment of mechanisms for regular coordination meetings with project implementing agencies.

DGP Nalin Prabhat; ADGPs Vijay Kumar (law and order) and Nitish Kumar (CID), principal secretary (home) Chandraker Bharti, IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi and divisional commissioner (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar Bidhuri were among the senior officers who attended the meeting.

Police must ensure a robust security and intelligence grid and conduct well-planned joint operations with Army and other security agencies to eliminate terrorism, the LG said. “The entire terror ecosystem, including the perpetrators and those aiding and abetting the terrorists, requires to be completely dismantled,” he added.
