Apple iPhone 16 has been the top-selling iPhone model in India for the second consecutive quarter, according to a report by research firm Counterpoint Research. As per the report, iPhone 16 led Apple’s shipments for the second consecutive quarter in India, driven by strong demand across both metro and smaller cities. iPhone 16 was also the 'top deal' during Flipkart's Big Billion Day sale. Reports suggest that the iPhone 16 was among the highest-selling devices during the sale. With just three months remaininf, one can easily say that iPhone 16 is the most-popular iPhone of 2025.

"Apple entered the top five brands by volume for the first time in Q3, making India the third-largest iPhone market globally. Through its aspirational brand image, rising affordability via financing options, and an expanding retail footprint, Apple has successfully leveraged the growing premiumization trend in the market. The iPhone 16 was the highest-shipped device in India for the second consecutive quarter. There is also a rising demand from smaller cities, while the growing share of Pro models continues to push up ASPs,” said Shubham Singh, research analyst, Counterpoint.

Markets where iPhone 16 series performed well in Q1 2025
Apple’s iPhone 16 was also the world’s best-selling smartphone in Q1 2025, according to Counterpoint Research's Global Handset Model Sales Tracker. This also marked the return of the iPhone series’ base variant to the top spot in the first quarter after a gap of two years. iPhone 16 performed well in Japan and the Middle East and Africa (MEA), with Japan recording the highest growth in base variant sales. Improved economic conditions and revised subsidy regulations favoured Apple's pricing strategy and ecosystem, further strengthening its appeal in the Japanese market.

According to company’s earnings call the strong sales of iPhone 16 series can be attributed to the festive season momentum and expanded retail presence. Apple CEO Tim Cook also highlighted that India is a standout market and the company recorded double-digit growth and increased customer engagement across both online and offline channels.

Apple becomes $4 trillion company for the first time ever
Recently, Apple became the $4 trillion company for the first time ever. This milestone follows a recent surge in Apple's shares, which have climbed 25% over the past three months. The rally appears to be driven by strong sales of the iPhone 17 models, released in September, which are reportedly outperforming their predecessors. The Cupertino-based tech giant is scheduled to report its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings very soon. Apart from Apple, Nvidia and Microsoft reached the $4 trillion mark in July. Nvidia’s market value has continued to rise, reaching $4.88 trillion.

In a note shared with CNBC, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee wrote: “Announcement of an increased pace of domestic investment in combination with a rapid shift in product manufacturing for the US market outside of China (India, Vietnam) has improved Apple’s positioning in the tariff landscape.”
