Deshaun Watson's Struggles Continue: Will Myles Garrett Be Next to Leave the Browns?

Send Push
The Cleveland Browns ’ 2024 season has been a rough one for Deshaun Watson , starting 1-5 and losing star receiver Amari Cooper . With Cooper gone, concerns have arisen about whether the Browns might also part ways with their defensive anchor, Myles Garrett , amid trade speculation. While the offense is struggling, many are questioning if the defense will remain intact, especially with trade deadlines approaching.

Will the Browns Trade Myles Garrett?

On Thursday's "Get Up," NFL insider Adam Schefter addressed the rumors floating around about Garrett's future. He said that even after all the hardships the Browns were facing, he expected Garrett not to be traded.

"I don't see them trading Maxx Crosby, and I don't see the Browns trading Myles Garrett," Schefter said during the segment. "I don't care if neither one of those teams wins any games up until the trade deadline. I don't think their stance changes."

This should give the Browns faithful some encouraging news, as the team fears it will lose its best defensive player. Since joining in 2017, Garrett has indeed been part of the franchise who never skipped a beat in his previous season. The former All-Pro has six seasons of double-digit sacks. He is on track this season after racking up four sacks in just six games so far.

Watson’s Challenge: Climb the AFC North or Sink Further?
The stakes cannot be any higher with Deshaun Watson looking forward to the game with Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend. While the optimistic fans of both teams view the match as a game in which the team will be rising to occupy the third position in the AFC North, his detractors see it merely as an opportunity for both Watson and the Browns to place themselves at the bottom-most rung of the division.

The game is crucial for the Browns, with the Baltimore Ravens featuring in the schedule right after the Bengals. Losing another two games could see the Browns slip to 1-7, almost insurmountable in the highly competitive AFC North.

Silver Linings After Cooper's Exit

While losing Amari Cooper is a devastating blow to the Browns' passing game, there are a couple of reasons to hope. First, Watson will have to forge new relationships with the remaining receivers in his arsenal, which provides an unpredictable flavor to the Browns' offense. This could help the team as defenses scramble to prepare for new threats emerging.

Also, the return of Nick Chubb this week should boost the Browns' running game considerably. With Chubb now back in the field, Cleveland's offense could regain balance and become effective again.

The Bengals are in a tough spell, which should make for a good game to get some momentum going into this match for Watson and the Browns. Of course, things could get serious for this season if they lose the next couple of games against the Ravens.
