Carlos Sainz is still settling in at Williams, and the latest blunder at the Japanese Grand Prix has made his fans believe that the Spanish driver is still accustomed to his habits at Ferrari. He moved to Williams after being asked to vacate his seat at Ferrari for Lewis Hamilton. During the first practice session at the Suzuka Circuit on Friday, Sainz missed the Williams pit box and drove towards the Ferrari box. This set social media abuzz, with many laughing over the incident.

Carlos Sainz drives past Williams pit box at SuzukaAfter the first practice session, Carlos Sainz was heading to the pit when he simply drove past the Williams pit box, which was at the beginning of the pit lane. When reminded over the radio, he had to complete an entire lap to return to the pit lane. The radio conversation was made public by Formula 1. As Sainz drove past the Williams pit, he was informed over the radio, "Box, box, remember we are at the beginning of the pit lane." Realizing his mistake, he responded, "Oh, f***, I missed it, guys. I thought we were at the end. Sorry."

Fans react to Carlos Sainz’ mistake at pit lane In no time, the video landed on Reddit, where F1 fans commented on it. “To make another double stop at Ferrari like old times,” wrote one user. Another commented, “He did say his Ferrari habits are hampering him.” One more added sarcastically, “What Ferrari does to a man.”

A Reddit user explained the reason behind the mistake: “To be fair, the top teams are usually at the top of the pits at most tracks, but Suzuka does it the other way around. Williams would usually be in the 9th pit box, not the 2nd one. Ferrari would usually be in the 2nd pit box, not the 9th one. So, I don’t actually think it’s that he’s not used to being without Ferrari, but rather that he’s not used to Suzuka’s strange pit lane layout.”

Another user added, “Exactly, the order tripped him up! In fact, if he had been looking for the Ferrari pit box, he might have actually found the Williams one ‘by accident’ lol.”
