Amidst the growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the makers of ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ which stars Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, stopped the theatrical release of the movie. The film was schedule to release in cinemas on May 9. However, post ‘Operation Sindoor’, the makers decided to cancel the release of the film in theatres, instead of delaying it. They straight away opted for the OTT medium.
With this direct release on OTT, PVR has now filed a lawsuit of Rs 60 crore against the production house Maddock Films, helmed by Dinesh Vijan. This production house is known for the recent successful movies like ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Chhava’. According to a report in News9Live, PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani confirmed that a lawsuit has been filed against the makers for cancelling the theatrical release, stating that the last-minute cancellation led to substantial financial losses. A senior official also told them as per this report that the legal proceedings are underway.
A statement issued by the team regarding the film’s release read, “In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16—only on Prime Video, worldwide. While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theaters, the spirit of the nation comes first. JAI HIND."
Meanwhile, many other films have also delayed their events and trailer launches. Aamir Khan has delayed the trailer launch of 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. The film is scheduled for release on June 20.
