Ranchi: Sanjay Prasad Yadav, the lone RJD minister in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) led INDIA bloc govt in Jharkhand, on Thursday hinted that he could give up his cabinet berth if directed by his party amid the ongoing tensions between the two outfits over seat-sharing in the Bihar assembly election.
The Godda MLA, who currently holds the portfolio of minister for labour, employment, skill training and development, however remained hopeful that the leaders of both the parties will work out an amicable solution in the coming days.
“While I am not much privy to the internal talks regarding seats for Bihar polls between both the parties, but in Jharkhand, we are in an alliance, and it is still very strong and steady. I am sure everything will be fine soon, contrary to the media reports,” Yadav told TOI.
State tourism minister Sudivya Kumar on Sunday announced JMM’s withdrawal from the Bihar assembly election. Kumar, who was involved in seat-sharing talks with the RJD, also announced that the party will not campaign for the INDIA bloc.
The move came after JMM was not accommodated in the seat sharing arrangements, which the party viewed as an act of deceit and lack of political maturity on part of the RJD.
Since JMM’s announcement, clamour has been rising within its ranks and file for dropping RJD from the state cabinet. Kumar had also announced that the party will review the alliance and decide what is best for it. Reacting to the development, Yadav said, “For me, party will always come first. Cabinet berth isn’t permanent. My party chose me to be a minister. I wasn’t an MLA for 10 years but became one now when people voted for me."
He however added that he doesn’t foresee that the Bihar episode won’t have any impact in Jharkhand alliance and that RJD will actively take part to canvas for JMM candidate in Ghatshila bypoll. “As part of the coalition govt, we will certainly participate in joint campaigning to ensure India bloc (JMM) candidate retains the seat in the November 11 bypoll,” he said.
