Panaji: A family feud assumed such fatal wrath that Shravan Barve, 24, from Sattari, was killed by his own father and brother, both of whom were arrested on Saturday.
Goa police arrested three persons — Shravan’s father, Devidas Barve, 64; his elder brother, Uday, 34; and a daily wage worker, Vasudev Nakul Ozrekar, 43; in connection with the murder. Ozrekar was remanded in 10-day police custody.
“We have arrested Vasudev,” North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal said.
Following the questioning of Devidas and Uday and based on eyewitness accounts, Valpoi police arrested the two late on Saturday.
Due to the hostile relationship with his kin, Shravan used to stay in Valpoi, while the rest of the family stayed at Honda. Fights erupted over petty issues whenever Shravan visited Honda, police said.
On Friday, around 18 persons from Valpoi were detained and questioned by police in connection with the murder.
The families of the detained persons gathered outside the Valpoi police station as the detainees, who were taken for questioning at 8am, did not return home until late at night.
Kaushal said some Valpoi residents were called for questioning and were allowed to go thereafter. “If required, we will call them for questioning again,” Kaushal said.
Shravan’s family had sought a speedy investigation into his death after his body was found in mysterious circumstances just outside the family home at Nagargao, Sattari.
The family had expressed its inability to point to someone who may have had an enmity with Shravan. Uday had even said that the family suspected murder as soon as the body was found. He also cited the autopsy report, which he said confirmed that his brother died due to asphyxia caused by the manual compression of the neck.
The family spotted the body around 8.30am on Tuesday inside their premises near the gate. Police registered a case of murder.
The case is being investigated by Valpoi PI Videsh Shirdokar under the supervision of DySP Jivba Dalvi and SP Kaushal.
