Why Security At Delhi AIIMS Has Been Increased With Facial Recognition

Delhi: AIIMS Delhi has taken a significant step towards enhancing security by launching a facial recognition-based access system. Although this system has been introduced as a pilot project, it is expected to be implemented across the entire hospital in the future. This means it will not be easy to enter AIIMS wards, ICU, or operation theatres without any significant reason. The main aim of this initiative is to closely monitor the entry of suspects and ensure safety in sensitive areas of the hospital, such as the wards, ICU, and operation theatres. The decision comes in the wake of safety concerns raised after an incident at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. AIIMS Director, Dr M Srinivas said, "After the incident at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, safety is necessary everywhere. The use of facial recognition software will help in preventing the entry of suspects."

Boosting Security in Critical AreasAs part of this initiative, a pilot project for the Facial Recognition based Access Control System (FR-ACS) and Visitor Management System (VMS) has been launched in the Mother and Child Block. The project aims to improve security in vital locations like operation theatres and ICUs and to regulate visiting hours for the relatives of patients admitted in the wards. Restricting unnecessary entry is essential to reduce the risk of infection and security concerns. This follows the report that the AIIMS Delhi Chief Security Officer has been accused of sexual harassment by a female security guard. The complaint letter was submitted to the institute on October 3 this year. In response, the AIIMS Director has established a committee to thoroughly investigate the allegations under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act.
