The 2018 release Badhaai Ho was a runaway blockbuster that's still being talked even now. Director Amit Sharma spoke to Zoom about his second film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao. The filmmaker shared his thoughts on where the characters would be now and why he still has a long way to go in his career. I feel good when people say Badhaai Ho about Badhaai Ho, I feel good, my ears do not get tired.Your film was a gamechanger. How many careers have been made, but how many mindsets have changed?God makes careers and we just become a medium. Neenaji, for example, had to be a star again. My film was just the medium.You made another very fine film recently Maidaan, but that didn't get the kind of a claim it should have. God forbid Badhaai Ho becomes your career’s Sholay?Sir, I think this is the beginning of my career. Yes, if I accept it as Sholay from now on, then somewhere or the other, you know, there is a desire inside you to make something even better, even better, so I think this is not Sholay for me, Sir. There is a truth inside him, only then that film gets made, so I made Maidaan also with that truth. But yes, there is no comparison between the two films. Both the films were excellent in terms of package. There is a right time for making a film and if the film is made and ready at that time then I believe it works. Why?No, I felt that there wasn’t any similarity between Badhaai Ho or Badhaai Do. I was not even aware that a movie named Badhaai Do was being made.
