The UK is bracing for cold weather as latest weather maps show the mercury plummeting to 3C and a weather expert suggested temperatures may soon be in a "downward spiral". The weather maps suggest that several areas in the northern part of the UK are to experience cold conditions on September 4.
WXCharts maps, generated on August 20 using the MetDesk data, show that a cold snap may take over the northern areas of the country. It comes as areas of the UK braved four heatwaves this summer, with the temperature levels soaring to 30C in many towns and cities and drought being declared. However, the latest weather charts suggest that Brits will soon need to take their jackets out of their closets.

According to the maps, areas around Inverness, Dundee and Fort William will begin to feel the chill from early hours- around 6am- on September 4.
The mercury levels will oscillate between 3-5C till 6pm before the weather settles down a bit. By 6pm on September 4, the temperatures will remain between 10 and 11C.
The areas around Midland will see the temperature levels between 7 and 8C, the maps have suggested.
Other parts of the country are likely to see temperatures in the double digits. Areas around London, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff may witness the highs of 19 and 20C during the day, the maps have suggested.

Jim Dale from British Weather Services told The Express: "It's certainly looking like a downward spiral as the month turns. Scotland is the main recipient of single figure minimum values but 3C in the glens may be pushing it somewhat. Generally 5-10C lows across the country, so & if it does come off it's a chilly welcome to Autumn."
The Met Office's long-range forecast between September 3 and 17 reads: "Confidence in the details through this period is low. However, low pressure and therefore unsettled or changeable weather looks more likely.
"There will be the potential for periods of stronger winds at times as well. Whether this takes the form of further low pressure systems running in from the Atlantic, or a more slowly evolving weather pattern with the potential for heavy showers is less clear. Temperatures are likely to be near to, or slightly above average overall."
