Popular TV chef Tom Kerridge has revealed how he made a dramatic lifestyle overhaul following a major health wake-up call.
The celebrity cook has been candid in recent years about the sweeping changes he's implemented to improve his health, and now he's disclosed what prompted his decision to abandon his unhealthy ways.
Speaking recently to Yours magazine, Tom explained that it was just before hitting a major milestonethat he chose to transform his lifestyle: "I was approaching 40 and my lifestyle was so unhealthy. I was eating badly and drinking far too much, and I thought, 'This can't go on.'"
Revealing that he remains vigilant about his diet, he said he has made remarkable progress in overhauling his lifestyle: "I still have a pretty healthy lifestyle, and I'm at the gym five times each week."
He went on: "My job involves lots of fattening foods - right now, I have two puddings in front of me that need tasting - but I always manage to balance with exercise and healthy eating in between."
Discussing his former habits on a recent episode of the We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast with Lisa Snowdon and Andy Goldstein, Tom offered a glimpse into what a typical day previously entailed.
He revealed that before giving up alcohol, he would begin work in his pub early in the day, finish at 10 p.m., and then consume a "pint of Negroni."
Following that, his alcohol consumption would persist, revealing he would routinely down between eight and ten "strong pints of lager", before drinking "half a bottle of gin" after returning home each evening.
Beyond his private struggles, Tom has cemented his position as one of the most recognisable figures in the culinary world in recent years.
Countless viewers will recognise him from his regular slots on programmes such as Saturday Kitchen and The Great British Bake Off, while he also presented its companion series, Bake Off: The Professionals.
Tom has also achieved huge success within the hospitality sector, launching his Hand and Flowers pub in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, back in 2005.
Making history as the first pub in the UK to achieve such recognition, it secured its second Michelin star in 2012.
Two decades after opening his first premises, Tom now proudly controls or manages an additional five locations: The Butcher's Tap and Grill, The Coach, Kerridge's Bar and Grill, Kerridge's Fish and Chips at Harrods, and The Shed.
