The Prince and Princess of Wales threw a "thank you" party for all the builders and staff who helped them move into their new "forever home," it has been reported. Prince William and Princess Kate bid their farewell to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor's Home Park and have now settled into Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park.
They wanted to settle in the new home before Bonfire Night and before Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis returned to Lambrook School after half term today. According to reports, William and Kate served drinks and food at The York Club, a members-only club for residents and employees of The Crown Estate, on Friday.
It is near the family's new home in Windsor Great Park.
A source told the Daily Mail: "The couple very sweetly just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to help."
The family reportedly spent much of the recent half-term holiday completing the move, before William's trip to Brazil today.
Renovation works had been non-stop with builders working "flat-out," so the moving date was brought forward.
The eight-bedroom Georgian mansion and its 150-acre perimeter had been cordoned off to ensure the family's security and privacy.
A source told the outlet a few weeks ago: "It is hoped they will be in the new home in time for Bonfire Night. That will make a fun start for the children."
The move came after a difficult period in Windsor, which saw the passing of Queen Elizabeth and the King and Kate being diagnosed with cancer.
The outlet claimed that the future King sees the family's experience at Adelaide Cottage as being "cursed".
The source added: "Adelaide Cottage really does have some difficult memories associated with it, sadly.
"They have experienced some of their most challenging times there. The family are really happy about this [move] and excited for a fresh start."
