jokingly said 'f*** Garna' after team-mate missed a big chance during the Red Devils' . The injured winger then told fellow colleague Manuel Ugarte that his goal - the first in the 5-4 triumph - was 's***'.
United fought back from 4-2 down to win 5-4 on a pulsating night to seal one of the most memorable nights in the club's recent history. Level 2-2 on aggregate heading into the second leg at Old Trafford, Ugarte and Diogo Dalot put them 2-0 ahead at Old Trafford. Ruben Amorim's side then completely collapsed - only to complete an astounding comeback.
Garnacho missed a huge chance to make the game safe before Lyon took control in extra-time. The French side only had 10 men for the additional 30 minutes but led 4-2.
Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty before Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire struck in the dying minutes to send Old Trafford into raptures. But Amad was keen to bring up Garnacho's miss after the game.
The 22-year-old posed for a celebratory photo alongside Garnacho and Ugarte. They were smiling and clearly in good spirits, but Amad wrote on X: "United will never die. Congrats Manu for you're [sic] s*** goal. F*** Garna for that miss, you gave us pain heart."
Diallo was clearly joking and meant his words endearingly.
Head coach Amorim revealed that he had taken inspiration from United greats of yesteryear ahead of the biggest game of his reign so far. United's season now hinges on the Europa League with the club on course to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League at the end of a hugely disappointing domestic campaign.
The Portuguese boss watched United's 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final. In that game, goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in added-time completed a miraculous comeback. The preparation clearly worked.
Amorim told TNT Sports: "I was watching the 1999 [Treble] documentary to have some inspiration for these moments. It was a great night, the team were tired, 4-2 with one more player, we think it's over, but here it's never over.
"Here everything is possible, you feel the environment. At 4-3, after the Bruno Fernandes penalty, we felt we could change the game."
United will face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final. The Spanish side beat Scottish outfit Rangers in their quarter-final tie.
