It's natural to be nervous when you're playing against a legend on your Crucible debut, but how you handle the tension is another matter. And fair to say Stuart Bingham left his mark when he came up against Jimmy White in 2000, just not in the way he would have liked.

Bingham, who captured his sole title in 2015, had just turned 24 when he made the main draw for the sport's most prestigious tournament for the first time.

And his campaign got off to a dream start, stunning defending champion 10-7 to send shockwaves through the watching public.

But in the second round against White, he surprised his opponent in a different manner. Speaking on his The Ball Run podcast, the Englishman recalled how he not only upset the 'Whirlwind', but also the crowd and match referee.

"I remember at the Crucible, my first time after I beat Hendry I played Jimmy and I farted!" he recalled. "I think the front two rows got the whiff of it. Eirian Williams, he was reffing. I remember going back to my chair, I farted, played a shot and it was foul and a miss.

"I stood back to the chair and I saw Jimmy just move away from the chair. He looked at me and said 'was that you?' and I went 'oh, I'm sorry.' Then the ref caught it and he moved to the other side."

Bingham jokingly concluded he had produced "one of those silent but deadly ones," although it wasn't enough to put White off his game. The icon went on to win 13-9, before losing to Welshman Matthew Stevens in the last eight.

Some 15 years later, Bingham was far more experienced and composed at the famous venue. He would to become the oldest first time world champion in history, and only the second man after Ken Doherty to have won world titles at both amateur and professional level.

The victory took him to a career high No.2 in the rankings, but he's not been back in the final since. He has twice made the final four, most recently in May this year, where he was .

In 2017 however, Bingham was found guilty of behaviour deemed far more serious than passing wind. He received a six-month ban from professional competition after breaching rules over betting on matches involving himself and other players.

He's currently ranked No.25 in the world and played in last week's Northern Ireland Open. There, Bingham was involved in one of the matches of the tournament with Murphy, leading 3-1 before the 'Magician' stormed back to win 4-3.
