'I tried butter from M&S, Waitrose, Kerrygold and Lurpak - there was a clear winner'

Butter is a staple ingredient in households in the UK, but we are spoilt for choice when it comes to which brand to buy. From Lurpak and Kerrygold to supermarket-owned brands, there are plenty of options.

For those struggling to pick, a mother and daughter pair took it upon themselves to try a range of butter brands and give their opinion on each of them. They tried butter from Harrods, Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, Kerrygold and Lurpak before eventually concluding that one is superior to the rest. The daughter, Laura, posted a video on her Instagram page, which has the handle @laurakhoshabamusic and boasts almost 34,000 followers, to show how the pair found each other.

She explained at the start: "Okay, so we got the Harrods salted butter, and we also got a bunch of different brands and supermarket butters, and we're gonna see which is the best one."

The pair began with Kerrygold's Pure Irish Butter. They put a generous portion on top of fresh bread before simultaneously exclaiming "mm" and agreeing it was perfectly salted and creamy.

Next up was the French butter with sea salt from M&S. However, their review was less positive with Laura saying: "Too salty. It's nice, but it's salty. You can't use a lot of it."

They quickly moved on to the Essential Waitrose salted butter. Laura said: "This is more mild. it's still decent, but it's got less flavour. And it's less salted."

The fourth butter they chose was the popular Lurpak, which is found in supermarkets across the UK and deemed one of the most favourite amongst Brits. However, Laura said it wasn't as good as she recalled.

The influencer explained: "That one didn't have as much flavour as the Kerrygold and the M&S one, I think."

The pair left the most expensive butter until late-Harrods. The colour immediately stood out, as it was considerably more yellow than the others that they tasted.

Laura's mum immediately said: "Very creamy." Laura added: "Yeah, it's creamy, but I want it to be more salted." They agreed that it had a similar taste to clotted cream but wasn't salty enough.

The pair eventually concluded that Kerrygold butter has the best overall taste. It is available in supermarkets across the UK, including Sainsbury's, Asda, and Tesco.
