Good Morning Britain halted proceedings to bring viewers an update on the shooting at an immigration centre in Texas, run by the US government agency known as ICE, which saw one person killed and two others seriously injured. Vice President J.D. Vance blamed the "radical left" for the tragedy. The show's reporter Richard Gainsford came live from New York to fill viewers in on the latest.
"The President and others saying that they believe that this is another instance of what they categorise as an escalation of politically motivated violence. They're accusing the California Governor Gavin Newsom and other leading Democrats of stirring up hate, of vilifying the work of these immigration, Customs Enforcement Officers, ICE agents, as they go about their work, often in what appears to be a brutal way of removing migrants from the street," he said. the show then cut to a clip of JD Vance issuing a statement about the shooting.
"We know this person was politically motivated. They were politically motivated to go after law enforcement. They were politically motivated to go after people who are enforcing our border, Vance said.
"And I think that is the most disgusting thing, the very people who keep us safe ought to be honoured and protected and praised by Democrats and Republicans alike. It is time to stop the rhetorical assault on Wall Street."
Gainsford then gave viewers details of the shooter, who killed himself at the scene.
"It is 29 year old Joshua John who has been identified as the shooter, and like so many of these cases, not a huge amount of it makes sense at the outset, certainly to his brother, who says he didn't have any political feelings, didn't have any negative feelings towards ICE agents.
"But it does seem that he fired on this ICE facility, a detention facility in Dallas, also on a van at the entrance, and that left one detainee dead and another two detainees injured, (with) the shooter then taking his own life.
"The authorities saying that at least one of the unspent bullets they found at the scene had these anti-ICEmessages written on them.
"And this is the third shooting in Texas at an ICE facility this year, the FBI now looking at this as a case of politically motivated violence.
"And you really don't have to look hard on your own social media news feeds to see cases of these ICE agents out and about doing their work, and the anger it provokes amongst many sectors of society here in the States, as Donald Trump goes about trying to fulfil his promise of removing tens of 1000s of migrants from the streets.
