Cameroon assistant manager Ashu Cyprian Besong has spoken out on Bryan Mbeumo's potential move to Manchester United and shed light on the player's frustrations. The forward is keen to join Ruben Amorim's side this summer but an agreement is still not in place for him to leave Brentford.
Mbeumo was the subject of interest from Newcastle, Tottenham and United earlier this summer, and it soon emerged that he was prioritising a move to Old Trafford.
United have since seen two bids rejected for the versatile attacker, but they are yet to table an offer which meets Brentford's valuation, which is believed to be in excess of £63million. Talks are ongoing nevertheless, but there are still no signs of an agreement.
The Bees are calm about the situation as they are under no pressure to sell Mbeumo. However, one of Cameroon's assistant bosses has revealed that the 22-time capped international is becoming frustrated by the speed of talks.
Besong told Telecom Asia: "Yes, obviously he's very frustrated with how long it's taken. But he's a professional and anticipates these things.
"I spoke to him about a week ago and he is very calm with everything that is going on. But of course, he's already told them he wants to go to United. He just wanted the two clubs to find an agreement, as he's very grateful for the opportunity that he's been given by Brentford in his career."
Mbeumo's frustrations have been well reported in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen whether it sparks United into life in negotiations and prompts Amorim's side to increase their offer. The winger scored 20 goals in 42 appearances for Brentford last season, and his versatility could prove an incredibly useful asset for the Red Devils when they look to compete on all fronts.
If negotiations do not accelerate, Mbeumo could look to invite offers from other suitors, especially given that he was not short of interest just a matter of months ago. A bidding war would play into the hands of Brentford, who are open to selling on their own terms, but could be a concern for United, who have several transfer priorities that they need to address as soon as possible.
