Bangalore: Since the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam and the Valmiki Corporation embezzlement surfaced, the BJP has intensified calls for Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation. The resignation of MUDA Chairman Marigowda has added fuel to the BJP’s campaign to pressure Siddaramaiah into stepping down.
Former Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda urged Siddaramaiah to resign amid the ongoing investigations into both the Valmiki Corporation and MUDA land scams. Gowda accused the Chief Minister of showing signs of guilt, stating, “He accepted the guilt on the floor of the house. He’s gone to temples to pray for his guilt. Nagendra has also come out on bail, and Marigowda has resigned. It’s time for Siddaramaiah to step down." Gowda also suggested that Siddaramaiah should retire from politics until the scandals are resolved. He highlighted that several people have approached the government, seeking permission to prosecute Siddaramaiah in various cases, including the Arkavathy layout scandal.
Gowda’s remarks came a day after Congress MLA and former Karnataka Minister B. Nagendra, who was recently released on bail, defended Siddaramaiah. Nagendra accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of pressuring him to implicate both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in the Valmiki Corporation scam. He claimed the BJP was attempting to destabilize the Congress government.
Despite the controversies and mounting pressure, Siddaramaiah remained firm. Addressing the allegations, he stated, "Any agency involved in this investigation must act impartially." Siddaramaiah called for neutrality from the ED and cited Nagendra’s claims about attempts to coerce him.
