After back-to-back ducks in Perth and Adelaide, Virat Kohli bounced back in style in Sydney — not with the bat, but through his exceptional fielding. In the third ODI, Kohli etched his name in the record books by setting a new world record for the most catches taken against a single opponent.
During the match, Kohli took a brilliant catch to dismiss Matthew Short off Washington Sundar’s bowling, which helped him surpass the previous record. Later, he grabbed another catch to dismiss Cooper Connolly, taking his total tally of catches against Australia to 78 — the most by any player against one team in international cricket.
With this feat, Kohli broke Steve Smith’s record, who had taken 76 catches against England. Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene holds the third position on the list, having claimed 72 catches against England.
Kohli’s latest milestone once again showcases his all-round brilliance and consistency on the field, proving that his impact in the game extends far beyond his batting achievements.
