A friend of Shannon Matthews' mum Karen has revealed that she would visit her in prison during her eight year sentence for the kidnapping of her daughter. Karen's friend Julie Bushby appeared on This Morning today ahead of Prime Video's new documentary The Hunt for Shannon Matthews.
Speaking about the visits, Karen's friend Julie Bushby said that Karen would sometimes be "black and blue" when she visited her in jail. Appearing on This Morning, she told Andi Peters and Emma Willis: "I used to go visit her at prison. I asked her the same questions.
"There were time I went that she was black and blue but she walked into that many doors," she said. "It was a different story each time I went. She just tells me she was scared of family."

Matthews was released from prison in April 2012 after serving half her sentence. It comes after paedo ex of vile mum Karen Matthews 'forced to flee again as home is graffitied'.

Last year, a musical parody about the shock kidnapping of Shannon Matthews was branded "cruel and sadistic" by members of the public. Performances by trouple K*** and the Gang were sold out of Shannon Matthews: The Musical debuted in 2022, with the group planning a film of the play.
Local Labour councillor Mussarat Pervaiz said the show trivialised the girl's experience, adding it was "disgusting".
