A tiny baby has died after being mauled to death when the family's dog suddenly turned.
One-week-old baby Jason Anthony Weaver, who was only born on August 28, was attacked by the five-year-old husky-pit bull mix on Thursday. The infant died from blunt-force trauma wounds, the Huntington County Coroner's Office announced.
Medics attempted to to save the child's life at the home in northeastern Indiana, US. The baby was taken to hospital in a critical condition but was later pronounced dead. Animal control chased the dog and placed the creature in quarantine. Little Jason's death has been ruled an accident, officials said, as his parents try to come to terms with the horrific incident.

"The Huntington County Coroner's Office extend their deepest sympathies to the Weaver family and friends," read a press release, which detailed the tragic attack. The dog had no prior instances of violence reported to police, WPTA reported.
The family posted an obituary online to honour the child. "Jason Anthony (Weaver) Kinsey, 7 days old, of Markle, passed away on Thursday evening, September 4, 2025. Jason enjoyed the sounds of Rock "n" Roll and country music. He loved the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
"Though his time on this earth was short, he will be loved forever. Jason was born on August 28, 2025 in Fort Wayne, a son of Violet Weaver and Austin Kinsey. His parents survive in Markle.
"Additional survivors include paternal grandparents: Rita (Michael) Wikey of Markle, and Timothy Kinsey of Markle; a brother: Joseph Edward Weaver; two uncles: Aaron (Liz) Kinsey, and Tony Kinsey; Paternal great grandparents: Charlotte Yencer, Bill Smith, and Barb and Amos Wickey; great aunts and uncles: Carmen (Mike) Looney, and Justin (Liz) Best; a great great grandmother: Annette Best and several cousins.
"Jason was preceded in death by and aunt: Cynthia Kinsey, and great grandparents: Joseph Yencer, Sharon Smith, Gregory Weaver and great-great grandfather: Charles Best. A private family graveside will be held at Hoverstock Cemetery in Zanesville at a later date."
The tragedy came less than a month after a five-month-old boy was mauled to death by a dogafter his mother left the infant in the care of relatives on her birthday in Florida. Sheriff Mike Chitwood of the Volusia County Sheriff's Department looked visibly upset as he branded the case "extremely, extremely heartbreaking".
“We have a young couple that leaves their five-month-old son, Carter, in the custody of their great-grandmother and great aunt, and they go out to dinner to celebrate mom’s birthday." The dog was seized and there is now a 10-day period in which the family can appeal it being euthanised.
On entering the room, the great grandma saw their 130lb Great Dane and husky mix sitting next to the child, who was lifeless and covered in blood. It was around this time that the baby's parents returned to the property and immediately rushed the child to Advent Hospital in Daytona Beach. Despite the best efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead.
“This is tragic. Tragic all the way around. You have a young mother will remember on her birthday that her child is dead,” Chitwood said at the press conference, his voice cracking with emotion as he spoke.
“And the grandparents, I mean, I just don’t know how anybody feels about this,” he continued. “It is so, so, so tragic on what started to be a great night, ends up when you return home, your child is dead. I can’t imagine how anybody in this family feels.”
