NCIS veteran Michael Weatherly has opened up on the “wonderful” chemistry that he has with his co-star Cote de Pablo.

NCIS fans have been calling for an NCIS spin-off revolving around former agents Tony DiNozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) for years and earlier this month, their wish finally came true.

Five years after they reunited off-screen in Paris, Paramount+’s NCIS Tony and Ziva finds the pair no longer together but co-parenting their daughter Tali (Isla Gie).

Of course, a spanner is thrown in the works of their flirtatious yet peaceful dynamic when Tony’s security company comes under attack and they go on the run.

As NCIS Tony and Ziva continues to play out every week, Screen Time spoke to Weatherly about working with De Pablo again and what makes their relationship so special.,

“I’m a fan of all the work everyone did on the show”, Weatherly began.

“I had been acting for over a decade when I started the show [NCIS] and so I knew the difference from something that felt good or felt bad and something that was resonating with an audience.

“It’s true with Cote [de Pablo] that you could feel we had a really fun dynamic and when that translates to an audience and become enamored with a couple - ‘shipping’ the couple - then you are in for a really wonderful, lucky ride.”

The first season of NCIS Tony and Ziva continues to play out on Paramount+ every week but fans are already thinking about its future.

However, as of yet, it is not guaranteed that NCIS Tony and Ziva is going to return for a second season.

When asked if the show would be back for more, de Pablo told TV Insider: “We’re just grateful that we got a chance to do it, and the rest is the rest. If we got a chance to do it again, we’d be thrilled.”

Meanwhile, showrunner John McNamara explained: “I try never to count my chickens before they’re hatched.

“I’m just focused on finishing this season and trying to make it as good as possible.

“And honestly, it is going to be entirely up to the fans and the subscribers to Paramount+ and ultimately to Paramount and CBS. It’s their property and it’s their money.”

NCIS Tony and Ziva continues every Friday on Paramount+
