Grand Design has been plunged into turmoil as a couple were left devastated after finding out they've lost £5,000 worth of items from their home due to a burglary.

In tonight's (October 23) instalment of the popular programme, presenter Kevin McCloud visits a brave couple in Northamptonshire who are embarking on an ambitious conversion project.

Adam and Tassy are turning a 20-metre-high water tower into a unique family dwelling complete with curved walls, slides, secret rooms, a firefighter's pole, a swimming pool and a sky garden.

However, the episode takes a sorrowful twist when the couple become victims of a theft during the renovation process.

CCTV footage uncovers the moment their home was infiltrated by burglars. "We got robbed," Tassy confesses, revealing that many of Adam's tools were stolen from inside the tower, reports .

"He's been extremely angry," she continues. "This is amateur hour," Adam remarks while examining the CCTV footage of the burglary.

Despite the setback of losing £5,000 worth of equipment, the couple channel their anger into persevering with the project. The footage displays multiple hooded thieves attempting, unsuccessfully, to break into the couple's padlocked shed. The final reveal will be shown in Wednesday's episode of Grand Designs.

It follows last week's episode where viewers saw Kevin become emotional as a couple built their 'little piece of heaven' after confronting a devastating cancer diagnosis.

In the tear-jerking episode, Tony and Ara embarked on a quest to construct a 'wellness' abode nestled within a woodland clearing close to Henley-on-Thames.

The journey, however, was fraught with challenges, as Ara disclosed that she had received a cancer diagnosis, further complicating her already delicate health situation.

By November 2023, after half a decade of perseverance and moments when all seemed for naught, the duo triumphantly completed their 'little piece of heaven'.

An emotional Tony expressed his fears about not being able to care for Ara adequately, and this poignant moment overwhelmed Kevin, who was also brought to tears.

In the heart-rending segments, he shared with the couple: "I'm in awe of the pair of you. It's very tough". In a moment of candour, Ara admitted: "It's been the hardest thing I've ever done... there's been times I've been resentful. But I live in a little piece of heaven. I'm happy."

Grand Designs continues on Wednesdays at 9pm on Channel 4
