There's good news for Shreyas Iyer. He was admitted to a hospital in Sydney after suffering an injury while taking a catch during the third ODI between India and Australia. He underwent surgery to stop internal bleeding and has been in the hospital ever since. The BCCI The BCCI released its third medical update on Saturday, stating that Iyer has been discharged from the hospital.s Iyer sustained a serious abdominal injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25 October 2025, resulting in a laceration to his spleen and internal bleeding. The injury was immediately identified and the internal bleeding was stopped immediately following a minor operation. He has been given appropriate medical treatment," the BCCI said in its statement.

Shreyas Iyer discharged from hospital

The BCCI further said, "His condition is now stable and he is recovering well. The BCCI medical team along with experts from Sydney and India are happy with his recovery and he has been discharged from the hospital today."

The BCCI further wrote, "We express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kouroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, as well as Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, who ensured Shreyas received the best possible treatment for his injury. Shreyas will remain in Sydney for further evaluation. He will return to India once the doctors declare him fit to fly."

How did Shreyas Iyer get injured?

On the fourth ball of the 34th over of the Australian innings, Alex Carey tried to hit a shot, but the ball flew backwards. Iyer, standing at backward short leg, had to run back. Running back, he dived and took a brilliant catch, but he groaned in pain as he landed on his chest. The physio arrived and immediately took him out. A scan revealed the severity of his injury.
