UP Govt Extends Stamp Duty Concession For Women On Property Worth Up To ₹1 Crore

Lucknow: In a major policy move aimed at boosting women's financial independence and property ownership, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the extension of stamp duty concession to property registrations valued up to ₹1 crore when registered in the name of a woman. The 1% concession, previously applicable only on properties worth up to ₹10 lakh has now been broadened, allowing potential savings of up to ₹1 lakh per transaction.

Officials say the decision is designed to support middle class earning women in acquiring property, thereby enhancing their economic status and social security. It is also expected to significantly increase the proportion of property registered in women's names across the state. The measure supports broader goals of Mission Shakti, a government programme focused on women’s empowerment.

The proposal was among 37 items approved during the Cabinet meeting held Tuesday at Lok Bhavan. Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar said that this step will contribute directly to financial inclusion by helping more women become property owners, fostering greater autonomy and self-confidence.

In another major decision, the Cabinet approved a ₹6,935.86 crore project to modernize 121 government polytechnic institutes in partnership with Tata Technologies Limited (TTL). Under the plan, “Tata Technology Excellence Centers” will be set up in these institutions to align technical education with industry needs. TTL will bear ₹6,034.20 crore of the total cost, while the state government will contribute ₹1,063.96 crore. An additional ₹858.11 crore will be allocated by the state for infrastructure development and basic facilities. In the first phase, 45 institutes will be upgraded under a pilot project. The Cabinet also gave its nod to convene the 2025 Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature starting August 11, in accordance with Article 174(1) of the Constitution, which requires that no more than six months pass between two legislative sessions. The last session concluded on March 5.

During the upcoming session, the government will table replacement bills for ordinances issued after the previous session, along with other legislative and procedural matters.

These decisions reflect the state government’s emphasis on structural reforms aimed at social equity, skill development, and legislative continuity.

Chitrakoot link expressway gets clearence

The UP Cabinet has also approved the Chitrakoot Link Expressway project, estimated at ₹939.67 crore. The 15.172-km stretch will connect Bharatkoop to Ahmadganj via EPC mode and initially operate as a four-lane road, expandable to six lanes. The expressway will improve connectivity to NH-35/76 and NH-135BG, supporting tourism and local access. Construction is to be completed in 548 days, generating around 38 lakh person-days of direct and indirect employment.
