Thane: The Vartak Nagar police have arrested a man for allegedly sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl in Thane on June 29.
The incident occurred around 10 AM in the Savarkar Nagar area when the girl was returning home after attending a class. According to police, the accused, who was in a car, allegedly followed the girl from MMR Hospital to Shastri Nagar and gestured for her to get into his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The minor rushed home and informed her mother, after which they approached the local police station to file a complaint. An FIR has been filed under relevant sections of 78(1)and 78(2) of Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita alongwith 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Acting on the complaint, a police team led by Senior Inspector Rajkumar Wakchaure reviewed CCTV footage from the area. They managed to trace the car’s registration number, obtained its details from the RTO, and visited the registered address. Although the accused was not present at the location, police tracked him down using his mobile number.

The chargesheet was filed within 24 hours, and the accused was produced before the court,” said Senior Inspector Wakchaure.
