Tamil filmmaker Vikram Sugumaran passed away on June 2, Monday, in Chennai, after suffering a massive cardiac arrest, at the age of 47. He was reportedly on his way from Madurai to Chennai after narrating a script to a producer.
As per reports, Vikram boarded a bus from Madurai to Chennai, but during the journey, he experienced severe chest pain. He was rushed to a local hospital, but despite their efforts, the doctors could not save him.
He is survived by his wife and children, who live in Chennai.
Tamil film industry mourns Vikram's demise
Vikram's sudden demise has left the entire Tamil film industry and fans shocked and bereaved.
Soon after news of Vikram's death surfaced, Tamil actor Shanthnu Bhagyaraj took to his X handle to mourn his demise. "#Rip dearest brother @VikramSugumara3. I’ve learnt so much from you & will always cherish every moment...Gone too soon... You will be missed (sic)," he wrote, along with photos of the two from film sets.
Music composer Justin Prabhakaran wrote, "A filmmaker who dreamed beyond frames, but left us too soon. Gone with countless stories untold. May your soul rest in peace Vikram Sugumaran sir (sic)."
About Vikram Sugumaran
Vikram started off as an assistant to legendary director Balu Mahendra between 1999 and 2000. However, it was his directorial debut Madha Yaanai Kootam which propelled him to fame and critical success. He was lauded for the raw and gritty rural drama and the social commentary that it portrayed.
Vikram's last directorial venture was Shanthnu's Raavana Kottam. The director was reportedly working on a new project titled Therum Porum, but his demise has now left the project in lurch.
Vikram's family is yet to share an official statement on his death.
