Navi Mumbai: In view of the upcoming road concreting work on Thane-Belapur Road near IKEA, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Department has announced a complete traffic shutdown on a section of the highway for a week. The work, to be carried out by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), will take place from 9 pm on Wednesday, to midnight on May 14.
According to a report submitted by the Senior Police Inspector of Turbhe Traffic Division, measures are being taken to avoid traffic congestion and minimize inconvenience to the public. Acting on this report, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade has issued an official notification imposing traffic restrictions under the authority granted by the Maharashtra Government's Home Department Notification dated September 27, 1996, and in accordance with Sections 115, 116(1)(a)(b), and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
As per the order, the section of Thane-Belapur Highway from Savita Chemical to Turbhe Railway Station will remain completely closed for all vehicular traffic during the specified period.
To manage the flow of vehicles, the traffic department has suggested alternate routes. "Light vehicles will be diverted via the Fire Brigade Signal (Mahape), proceeding through Sector 26 APMC and Palm Beach Road to reach their intended destinations," said Navi Mumbai traffic police, adding, "For heavy vehicles, two alternate routes have been designated. The first route will require drivers to turn left from the Fire Brigade Signal (Mahape) and proceed via the Turbhe MIDC area. The second option for heavy vehicles involves turning left from under the Savita Chemical Bridge and continuing along the Turbhe MIDC route."
The Navi Mumbai Traffic Department has urged motorists to cooperate with the diversion plan and plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
