Maharashtra: 7 Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested From Mumbai And Pune For Illegal Stay; Court Orders Deportation

The MIDC police, on June 24, arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals from Andheri East and Pune for living illegally in India. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court ordered that all of them be deported to Bangladesh, and their deportation process has started.

Investigating Officer Jagtap completed the investigation in ten days and filed a chargesheet in court. Within a month, the court convicted all seven accused and sentenced them to one month’s imprisonment and a fine of Rs.500. There is a provision for an additional two days’ imprisonment for failing to pay the fine.

According to the police, the MIDC police received information about illegal immigrants. Acting on the tip-off, Sub-Inspector Mahadev Jagtap and his team raided the main gate of a Gurudwara in Andheri East, where Bayazid Ayub Sheikh, 47, was detained. He turned out to be a resident of the Narela district in Bangladesh. During interrogation, it was found that he had been living illegally in India and was in contact with other Bangladeshi nationals.

Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta Nalawade, Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Vani, and Police Inspector (Crime) Mahesh Gurav, Sheikh was further interrogated. Based on the information given by Sheikh, the police arrested six other Bangladeshi women from Andheri East, Mumbai, and Katraj, Pune.

The accused have been identified as Nasrin Begum, 38; Rozina Akhtar, 39; Kakoli Akhtar Brishti, 25; Roma Begum, 31; Pakhi Begum, 24; and Kohinoor Akhtar, 26. All of them were living in India without valid documents.

The police have registered a case against them under relevant sections of the Passport (Entry into India) Act and the Foreigners Act.
