Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The proposed use of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV)’s Bada Bangarda land continues to evolve — from a medical college to an Ayush institute, then to an architecture institute and now, plans are underway to develop an IT Park on the site.
‘We are planning to set up an IT Park on Bada Bangarda land under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model,’ vice chancellor Prof Rakesh Singhai told reporters. He said that the initiative came following a recommendation by Dr Sanjay Dubey, Additional Chief Secretary (Science and Technology), which was enthusiastically endorsed by the university administration.
‘The idea is to develop the park through a bidding process, in collaboration with a reputed IT company,’ Prof Singhai explained. DAVV has been allotted 12 acres of land in Bada Bangarda. Out of this, around 1 lakh square feet will be reserved for academic purposes, including courses such as Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and Bachelor of Design. The remaining area will be used for the IT Park.

Non-viable course to be discontinued, to remain under CUET
Singhai stated that some of the conventional courses could not attract enough students yet it is the responsibility of the university to continue to run such courses. However, we will examine viability of a few other courses.
If they are not found viable, they will be discontinued, he said. To a query, the VC stated that the university would continue to remain under the umbrella of CUET for admission to its professional course. ‘The CUET is a gateway to entry of talented lot from across the country to DAVV,’ he said.
Medical College is not a liability: VC
Dubbing it ‘an ambitious project of DAVV’, the VC stated that the university is going to mobilise funds required for setting up medical facility in Jhabua district from NGOs and different ministries. ‘We have been allotted 70 acres of land and nearly 250 acres have been earmarked for the medical college project.
The government will attach a 300-bed district hospital to the project, easing out pressure on the university,’ the VC said. Singhai said that the DAVV sees the medical project as an opportunity and not liability.
