Virat Kohli has broken his silence after four years about his decision to leave the captaincy of the Indian team and later Royal Challengers Bangalore in the year 2021. He led the country for almost a decade and his franchise RCB in the IPL. However, in 2021, Kohli suddenly left the captaincy of the Indian T20 team and then RCB. Then he was also removed from the captaincy of ODIs. Kohli said that his batting was being monitored due to not being in form. Then he thought that now it was enough and he finally decided to leave the captaincy to be happy in life. A few months later, Kohli also left the Test captaincy after the defeat to South Africa.

'It was getting difficult to concentrate'
Kohli said that he had reached a point in his career where it became difficult to concentrate continuously. He said these things while talking to Mayanti Langer in the 'RCB Bold Diaries' podcast. Kohli's name is currently in the news for liking Avneet Kaur's picture on Instagram. However, he has clarified on this matter. In this episode, he openly talked about his captaincy in the podcast.
'Sometimes I was struggling in captaincy and sometimes in batting'
Kohli said, 'There came a time when captaincy became very difficult for me. A lot was happening in my career then. I was captaining India for seven to eight years. I captained RCB for nine years. In whatever match I played, a lot was expected from me in batting. I did not realize then that I was not able to concentrate on any work. If I was not struggling in captaincy, I was struggling in batting. I used to think about it all the time. It had become very difficult for me and in the end, it dominated me too much.'
'It is important to be happy to stay in the game'
Kohli took a month's break from cricket in 2022 and during that time he did not touch the bat at all. He said that there was a time in his life when he was struggling to be happy in his personal life. He said, 'That's why I left the captaincy because I felt that if I have to stay in this game, then it is important for me to be happy.' He said, 'I needed a place in my life where I could be comfortable and play my cricket. Without any criticism, without looking at what you are going to do this season and what is going to happen next, I can focus completely on cricket.'
'Dhoni-Kirsten helped after the Under-19 World Cup'
By leading India to the Under-19 World Cup title, one does not get an easy entry into the senior team nor is there any guarantee of it. However, Kohli got a break in the Indian team soon after winning the Under-19 World Cup 2008. He said it was his determination and the support of then captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Gary Kirsten that helped him secure the number three position in the team.
