From matching Karwa Chauth puja thalis with the fabric and colour of their outfit to choosing thalis with photos of their partner, women are giving their traditional Karwa Chauth thalis a makeover this year.

‘Newlyweds usually go for thali with pictures of their partner’
#CoupleGoals mean different things to different people. And for some, it is about flaunting the name, photo of their partner in their mehendi, nails and now puja thalis. Women are opting for customised Karwa Chauth thalis with the photo of their partner or getting stickers with a couple photo for their kalash or thali cover. “Newlyweds usually go for thalis with the picture of their partner. We let customers know the possible makeover we can do with the thali and they choose according to their preference,” says Priyanka Sethi from JS Collection. Rohit Arora from a gifting shop, points out, “Women are also asking us to print couples’ photos on their thali cover and kalash. It is not something that will stay for days. The cover can be kept but the sticker will most probably come out.”

"It is my first Karwa Chauth. So I’ve chosen thali that matches the red of my outfit. It has Sada Saubhagyavati Bhava written on it. The trend was started by Deepika Padukone when she got a customised wedding dupatta. Since then it’s been customised by many for weddings and Karwa Chauth outfits," says Akansha Batra, a resident of Greater Kailash.

‘Women want their thalis to be customised according to the colour of their outfit’
Priyanka adds that women are also choosing the thalis according to the colour of their outfit. “We have various kinds of fabrics. So, depending on the colour of their outfit and the fabric that goes with their outfit, women are choosing bespoke Karwa Chauth thalis. It can be with gota patti work, latkan lace, depending on their choice,” she says. Meanwhile, Arpana Bajaj, a resident of Sector 52, Gurgaon, opines, “When you are spending so much on everything else – outfit, mehendi, salon, you don’t want to miss this one thing which is very important for your puja. You meet so many people during katha, you want to look your best and you can buy a colourful decorated kalash anywhere now. So when you have customised sets like these, you don’t mind spending on it.”
