As 2025 draws to a close, movie lovers have plenty to look forward to this winter. A mix of fantasy epics, emotional dramas, and high-octane thrillers are gearing up for release across Hollywood and Bollywood. From James Cameron’s long-awaited return to Pandora with Avatar: Fire and Ash to Aanand L. Rai’s poignant Tere Ishk Mein and Aditya Dhar’s action-packed Dhurandhar, the last quarter of the year promises something for every kind of moviegoer.

Wicked: For Good — November 21
The beloved tale of friendship, rebellion, and destiny returns with Wicked: For Good, the second and final chapter in Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of the Broadway phenomenon. Following the dramatic conclusion of Wicked Part One, which ended with Elphaba soaring through the skies to “Defying Gravity,” this sequel picks up with her on the run after rejecting the Wizard’s control.

The film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, alongside Jonathan Bailey. The June-released trailer teased an epic showdown and emotional closure for the two witches. The movie lands in theaters just before Thanksgiving, making it one of the most anticipated musical finales of the year.

Tere Ishk Mein — November 28
Following the emotional resonance of Raanjhanaa, director Aanand L. Rai returns with another tale of love and loss in Tere Ishk Mein. Featuring Dhanush as Shankar and Kriti Sanon as Mukti, the story unfolds in the spiritual city of Banaras, exploring love’s most painful turns — from heartbreak to healing.

The teaser shows a charged moment when Shankar, coming from his father’s funeral, crashes Mukti’s wedding and angrily pours Ganga jal over her during her Mehendi ceremony — a symbolic act that sets the tone for the film’s intensity. With music composed by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil, the songs are expected to capture the film’s haunting emotions. Produced by T-Series, Colour Yellow, Bhushan Kumar, and Aanand L. Rai, the movie will release on November 28 in both Hindi and Tamil.

Dhurandhar — December 5
Director Aditya Dhar, known for Uri: The Surgical Strike, returns with Dhurandhar, an espionage thriller featuring Ranveer Singh as a covert agent operating deep within Pakistan. The film boasts a powerhouse ensemble including Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal.

Backed by Aditya Dhar, Jyoti Deshpande, and Lokesh Dhar, Dhurandhar is expected to blend intense drama, large-scale action, and patriotic fervor. Ranveer’s transformation for the role has already drawn attention, with insiders describing it as one of his most grounded performances to date. The film is set for a theatrical release on December 5, 2025.

Avatar: Fire and Ash — December 19
Closing the year with a cinematic spectacle, James Cameron returns to the world of Pandora with Avatar: Fire and Ash. The third installment introduces the “Ash People,” a fire-based Na’Vi clan that brings new depth to the saga’s environmental and cultural themes.

Cameron told Deadline that fire “has a symbolic purpose in the film and there’s a culture specifically around that concept.” Returning stars include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang. Ahead of its release, Avatar: The Way of Water will enjoy a special one-week 3D re-release, allowing fans to revisit the franchise’s breathtaking visuals before the next chapter premieres just before Christmas.
