Send Push
As bomb threats continue to loom over Indian airlines, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Friday said that the Centre has prioritised resolving the issue. The minister further encouraged all to 'act responsibly' to ensure secure travel.

"Ensuring the safety of our skies is my top priority. Recent hoax bomb threats have been traced to minors and pranksters. Civil Aviation Ministry is taking strict action and working closely to ensure passenger safety and prevent any such incidents. I personally urge everyone to act responsibly, as together, we can avoid these inconveniences and maintain a secure and smooth travel experience for all," said the minister.

Hoax bomb threats from minors and prankster plagued almost all major airlines in the country, including IndiGo, Air India, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet, in the past week. Several domestic and international flights were diverted from their destinations after receiving such threats, causing panic and concern among flyers and authorities alike.

Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Wednesday had said that the Centre is monitoring the situation of bomb threats to airlines and law enforcement agencies are pursuing all cases actively. Moreover, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is planning to impose stringent penal rules including putting perpetrators on the no fly list to prevent hoax security threats after over a dozen airlines received bomb threats over 48 hours this week, the minister had earlier said.

"I am deeply concerned over the recent disruptive acts targeting Indian airlines, affecting the domestic and international operations...In response, I had chaired a high-level committee on 14th October comprising officials from DGCA, BCAS, CISF, MHA and MoCA. I am monitoring the situation regularly, and our law enforcement agencies are pursuing all the cases actively," said the aviation minister.

Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam had suggested in a meeting of the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, which is headed by JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha, that investigators had gathered some information and were taking action. They were also working on a few other cases of such hoax messages, he had said on Wednesday.

He, however, cited the sensitivity of information due to the ongoing probe into the matter to decline to share more details, according to sources.
