R Madhavan recently revealed how his former landlady imparted him invaluable parenting advice. In a candid chat with Edelweiss Asset Management CEO Radhika Gupta, the ‘Shaitaan’ actor reminisced about how he once lived as an exchange student in Canada, and the town he was living in had many cases of drug abuse and teen pregnancies. However, the family he stayed with as an exchange student had kept their kids on a stable path.
“I found one family that I stayed with, their children, absolutely normal as can be. Very well brought up. Not into any of these issues,” he recalled.
Many years later, he asked the landlady how she had brought up such well-behaved and sober children. Her advice was: Make sure kids don’t have too much free time.
“She said, ‘Don’t give your child free time’. She said, ‘Indulge him or her in whatever they want to do, as long as they are doing it with passion, the interest will change. Their level of commitment will change. But make sure that they don’t have free time until they’re 15-16 years old. Make sure that they go from one activity to the other,” he said.
Madhavan emphasized that when planning events for children, the activities should be lighthearted and engaging rather than something that feels burdensome. He stressed that a child’s day ought to be filled with enjoyable experiences, keeping them occupied in a positive way so that their attention does not drift toward unnecessary worries at such a tender stage of life.
His own son, Vedaant, who is now 20 years old, has been deeply involved in competitive swimming since his early childhood. Over the years, he has proudly represented India at various prestigious events including the Commonwealth Youth Games, the Malaysian Open, and the Thailand Open, where he has earned several medals for the country. During the Covid pandemic, Madhavan made the decision to relocate to the United Arab Emirates to ensure that Vedaant’s rigorous training and practice sessions could continue without disruption.
On the work front, Madhavan was last seen in the Netflix romantic drama ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’. He will next be seen in De De Pyaar De 2 and Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’.
