Kim Kardashian undergoes banned surgery; had to leave USA to get it done

Send Push
Kim Kardashian recently revealed she left the United States to undergo a stem cell treatment in Mexico, describing the procedure as life-changing. The reality star, who is also the founder of SKIMS, shared details of her experience on Instagram, explaining that this specific therapy is currently banned and unavailable in the U.S.

Kardashian recounted that two years ago she sustained a shoulder injury while lifting weights, which caused significant pain and limited mobility. After trying multiple options to relieve her discomfort, she discovered stem cell therapy and connected with Dr. Adeel Khan at Eterna, a clinic specializing in regenerative medicine based in Mexico.

According to her, the treatment involved the use of Dezawa Muse cells, a type of stem cell not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She reported immediate improvement after the therapy, regaining full range of motion and feeling normal again.

Encouraged by the success with her shoulder, Kardashian sought treatment again for persistent back pain she had endured for years. She described the stem cell procedure as a "game-changer," noting that the unbearable pain was alleviated quickly and the relief was profound.

While emphasizing that results may vary for others, Kardashian recommended thorough research and consultation with medical professionals before considering such treatments.

Stem Cell Therapy and Regulatory Concerns

Stem cell treatments generally use cells to repair or replace damaged tissues, but many remain experimental in the U.S. The FDA has approved some stem cell uses, like those involving blood-forming cells for blood disorders, but others, including Dezawa Muse cell therapy, face regulatory restrictions due to safety concerns and unknown long-term effects.

Global Stem Cell Therapy, a website tracking these treatments, states that costs can range between $4,000 and $15,000 depending on the joint treated and condition complexity.

Kardashian’s Perspective on Accessibility and Science

Since the therapy is inaccessible in the U.S., Kardashian expressed gratitude for having the means to travel abroad for care. She also voiced hope that scientific advancements will eventually make such treatments widely available to benefit more people.

She concluded her post with an optimistic message about healing and the future of medical science.

Meanwhile, Kardashian recently launched a new product under SKIMS called the "Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap," priced at $48, designed to be worn overnight to enhance facial contours. However, this product received criticism from British TV host Katie Piper, who compared the face wrap to restrictive bandages she wore following an acid attack. Piper urged consumers not to use the product, calling it cruel and unkind to the face.
