Defence PSU, Bharat Electronics Limited ( BEL) received a Rs 1,640 crore worth order from the Ministry of Defence to supply Air Defence Fire Control Radars (Atulva) to Indian Army.
The indigenous radars, originally designed by Defence Research and Development Organisation ( DRDO), are manufactured by BEL to provide effective defence against air threats during day and night under all weather conditions.
The Indian Army is said to use these Air Defence Fire Control Radars for surveillance, acquisition,tracking of air targets and control of air defence guns for effective neutralization. These radars have inbuilt ECM capabilities.
The system is modular by design and is easy to deploy, operate and maintain, the company said.
