Skoda Kylaq vs Hyundai Venue vs Kia Sonet: Dimensions, engine options, features, specs compared

Skoda Auto India is gearing up to unveil the new Skoda Kylaq sub-compact SUV on November 6, 2024. Built on the brand’s MQB-A0-IN platform, the SUV will measure under four meters in length. Set to launch in 2025, the Kylaq will compete with the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet , Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and other sub-compact SUVs in the Indian market .

In this article, we'll compare the new Skoda Kylaq with the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet, highlighting all available details. Starting with dimensions, the Kylaq, built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, will be under four meters long, measuring 3,995 mm in length. It features a wheelbase of 2,566 mm and a ground clearance of 189 mm, while the width and height have yet to be disclosed.


Although both the Sonet and Venue share the same platform, their dimensions differ. The Venue measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,617 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. In comparison, the Sonet also measures 3,995 mm in length but is slightly wider at 1,790 mm and shorter in height at 1,610 mm, maintaining the same wheelbase of 2,500 mm. Additionally, the Sonet offers 392 liters of boot space , while the Venue provides 350 liters.

First, let’s compare the pricing, the Hyundai Venue is available in E, S, S+, S(O), SX and SX(O) variants and the price starts from Rs 7.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Talking about the Sonet, the Sonet is available in HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+ and X-line variants and the price starts from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). The prices of the Kylaq are expected to start from Rs 8 lakh for the entry-level trim and up to Rs 14 lakh for the top-of-the-line trim (both prices ex-showroom, expected).

Comparing the features, the Venue gets a dual-tone black and beige interior colour scheme. Features include an 8-inch touchscreen system with in-built navigation, an air purifier, dual USB C-slots, a digital instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger, paddle shifters, four-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, 60 connected car features and over-the-air updates, Alexa and Google Voice Assistant, single pane sunroof and much more. In terms of safety, the Venue gets ADAS, six airbags, ESC, VSM, hill-assist control and much more.

The Sonet features an all-black interior theme with features such as a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, cruise control, an air purifier, a Bose audio system, UVO-connected car tech, wireless phone charger and much more. Talking about safety, the Sonet misses out on ADAS, other features include six airbags, ESC, front and rear parking sensors and much more.

In terms of features, Skoda has confirmed that the Kylaq will feature six-way adjustable front seats with a ventilation function, six airbags (as standard), a multi-collision-braking system and LED lighting. Other expected features include a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system which will likely be an 8.0-inch unit with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a semi-digital cluster, automatic climate control, single-pane electric sunroof, multiple airbags, auto headlamps with wipers, rear AC vents, cruise control, rear camera with sensors and more.

The Sonet and Venue share the same set of engines. Both SUVs get three engine options - an 83 hp 1.2-litre NA Petrol engine, a 120 hp 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a 115 hp 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Gearbox options in the Sonet include a 5-speed manual with the 1.2-litre NA Petrol, iMT or DCT with the 1.0-litre Petrol, a 6-speed manual or a torque converter AT with the 1.5 turbo diesel. Talking about the gearbox options in the Venue, the SUV gets a 5-speed manual with the 1.2-litre NA Petrol, iMT or DCT with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 6-speed manual with the turbo diesel.

The Skoda Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
