The Union Information and Broadcasting Minister on Thursday announced the launch of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology IICT at the Waves Summit. This institute will become a national center for promoting animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) sector in India.

The institute is being started by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with FICCI and CII. The special thing is that this institute will work along the lines of prestigious institutions like IIT and IIM. Its objective is to take the country's creative industry to the global level as well as to increase new technology and innovation by training the youth.

Rs 400 crore approved, many big companies came together
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Rs 400 crore for this institute. The biggest thing is that big tech and media companies like NVIDIA, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Star India, and Adobe have also come together to join IICT.

The Maharashtra government provided land.
The Maharashtra government has provided land in Mumbai for IICT. Its first phase has started in NFDC Building, Peddar Road, Mumbai. Modern facilities like gaming labs, animation labs, sound and editing studios, virtual production setups and smart classrooms are available here. In the second phase, Film City will be developed as a new campus spread over 10 acres in Goregaon. According to Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, in the coming years, regional centers of IICT will also be opened across the country so that more and more youth can be connected to this sector.
