UGC: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged the universities and colleges of the country to make timely changes in their academic courses. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the needs of the rapidly changing world. The commission says that now education should not be limited to books only, but it should also include elements like practical experience, life skills, and 'learning by doing' to the students so that unnecessary burden of subject matter can be reduced and education can become more effective.

UGC has urged all universities to prioritize curriculum revision and take immediate steps to update, review, and implement the curriculum of all programs offered by them and their affiliated colleges.

Changes have already started in school education.
This change in school education has already started. Under the new National Education Policy (NEP), there are rapid changes in the curriculum at the school level. In the recently published new textbooks, emphasis has been laid on promoting skill development, life-management abilities, and creative thinking of the students by reducing the subject matter.

Letter sent to Vice Chancellors and Principals
UGC has taken a concrete step in this direction and has sent a letter to the Vice Chancellors of all universities and Principals of colleges. It states that the curriculum of all academic programs should be revised immediately by the recommendations of NEP-2020. The credit framework and qualification framework in these courses should be prepared in such a way that apprenticeship, internship and skill development can be given the necessary place.
