The board cancels validity of more than 500 schools; the highest number in Palwal, Yamunanagar and Rewari.

Haryana Board has taken rapid action against illegal schools running in the state. Haryana School Education Board (BSEH) has canceled the recognition of more than 500 schools violating education rules. The board said that according to the list of unrecognized schools, the highest number of illegally operating schools has been found in Palwal, Rewari and Yamunanagar. Extensive action has been taken against unrecognized schools in an effort to maintain educational standards and prevent illegal institutions from operating.

Further, the board said that a total of 515 schools were running schools indiscriminately by ignoring the education rules, on which the board took action and canceled their recognition. The board said that a total of 14,295 government schools are currently running in the state.

The board had sought applications for recognition

In January 2025, the board has sought applications for provisional, temporary affiliation to unrecognised private schools year by year for the academic session 2024-25 from schools running before the implementation of Haryana School Education Rules 2003.

How many unrecognised schools in which district?

The list of unrecognised schools includes many districts of the state - including 29 in Bhiwani, 28 in Fatehabad, 22 in Gurugram, 26 in Jhajjar, 35 in Kaithal, 39 in Karnal, 75 in Palwal, 90 in Rewari and 40 in Yamunanagar.

On July 15 last year, the board had said that all permanent and temporary recognised schools affiliated to the Haryana School Education Board would be inspected by the board office from time to time. Along with this, strict action was also warned against schools not following the rules laid down by the board.

What are the rules of Haryana School Education?

The Haryana School Education Rules came into force on 30 April 2003, stating that no school in the state can function, establish or start classes without the prior approval or permission of the Director. Every school established by any person or association of persons or firm or society or trust or company has to follow the norms of these rules.

Primary schools not following the rules will be fined not more than Rs 15000, middle schools Rs 20000, and senior secondary schools Rs 25000. It further said that in case of any contempt on the part of the school, the operation of the school can be stopped.
