Woman killed in horror Cornwall double-decker bus crash was 'life and soul of party'

A woman who tragically died along with a one-year-old boyhas been named as friends said "she was the life and soul of party".

Sian Goffin and the young boy, who was also in a Vauxhall Astra, sustained serious injuries and both died in hospital following the crash on Meaver Road, Mullion, Cornwall, at round 8.40am on October 14.

Tributes have poured in with one person writing on social media: "It’s with a heavy heart that I have to tell you all that Sian Goffin has passed away following the horrific accident on Monday morning. She will be very much missed by all of us who loved her. Sleep tight sweetpea, and I will see you on the other side."

And a friend of Sian's said: "Sending my love shannon to you,your dad, your brother, sam and their two gawjus boys. She will be well and truly missed. I can't believe this news she was the life and soul of every party and always made everyone's day stay strong."

While a relative posted: "I honestly cannot believe I'm having to write this... but it's with heavy hearts to let you know that sadly Sian Goffin has grown her wings and has passed away. It's such a shock to us as a family, I would really appreciate it if you could all respect our privacy with dealing with the loss of Sian so soon after losing mum/normal nanny. To a loving Daughter, Sister, Mummy, Niece and Cousin. We love you and will forever miss you."

first confirmed the woman had died in hospital and then in a tragic update said that the boy had also succumbed to his injuries. "A one-year-old child has now died following a road traffic collision in Mullion earlier this week," the force stated. "Officers were called to the B3296 Meaver Road at around 8.40am on Monday 14 October to reports of collision involving a silver Vauxhall Astra and a double decker school bus.

"The two occupants of the Vauxhall – a local woman in her 30s and a male child – sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Both have now tragically passed away in hospital. The next of kin is aware.

"Twenty seven children on the school bus sustained minor injuries and one child from the bus sustained serious injuries but these are not considered life-threatening. Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst investigations took place."

Sergeant Phil Brown from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team said: “We are deeply saddened that a woman and child have now died following the collision in Mullion earlier this week. It is impossible to put into words the grief those close to them are feeling right now.

“Our thoughts continue to be with everybody involved as we continue to work with the school and partners to make sure everybody receives the support they require following this tragic collision.” The force also stated: "The family wish for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time as they come to terms with their loss. Anyone with any relevant information or dashcam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via the force website or by calling 101, quoting 50240260109."
