What Tottenham supporters did after Will Lankshear's first goal during Galatasaray clash

Will Lankshear scored his first Tottenham goal during Thursday's Europa League tie against Galatasaray. The 19-year-old, who made his debut from the start in the 2-1 win over Ferencvaros last month, was handed another appearance from the off by Ange Postecoglou and he paid back his manager's trust.

After going behind through Yunus Akgun, levelled in the 18th minute. Archie Gray's lofted pass found Brennan Johnson at the back post and he squared the ball across the face of goal for Lankshear to tap home from close-range. It was a neat finish from the teenager, who was at the right place at the right time to score.

The Tottenham fans inside RAMS Park could be heard signing Lankshear's name after his maiden strike. "Will Lankshear, he's one of our own," sang the Spurs supporters to Lankshear, who started off in the Arsenal academy before moving to Tottenham after a spell at Sheffield United.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, their hard work of getting back into the game was undone by a quick-fire Victor Osimhen brace before half-time. The Nigerian, who was linked with a move to Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United over the summer, struck twice within seven minutes.

Osimhen's first came following an error from Radu Dragusin. Galatasaray's Mauro Icardi robbed the ball off the Romanian before Dries Mertens played the ball through to Osimhen, who hit the ball first time beyond the dive of Fraser Forster. He then netted his second six minutes before half-time, getting on the end of an excellent cross from Mertens before directing the ball into the bottom corner.

Although Spurs might lose the game, Lankshear will not forget this night for the rest of his life. He has been dubbed as the 'next Harry Kane' for his performances in the Under-21s and is showing signs of promise in the first-team with his strength, pace, link-up play and technical awareness in and around the box.

Lankshear started his career in the Arsenal academy before moving to Sheffield United following his shock release in February 2021. He captained the Blades to the Under 18s Professional Development League title in the following season, scoring 38 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.

United were ready to offer Lankshear a new contract, only for Tottenham to swoop in and sign him for £2million in August 2022. His development continued at Spurs and last season Lankshear scored 23 goals for their Under 21s team in Premier League 2, including a brace in the play-off final victory over Sunderland.
