Tiny baby born at just 11oz finally allowed to go home after 18 months in hospital

The parents of one of Britain’s smallest babies are celebrating finally taking her home after she spent her first 18 months in hospital.

Robyn Chambers weighed just 11oz when she arrived early in March last year – the tiniest baby to be born in Wales.

The “little warrior” was intubated and placed in a sandwich bag to keep her vital organs warm.

Due to her tiny size and conditions she has spent her entire life in hospital.

But now Robyn, who was delivered at Grange ­Hos­­pital in Cwmbran, ­Tor­­faen, at just 23 weeks, has returned home.

Mum Chantelle, 34, and dad Daniel, 38, said it was a “dream come true” to take her back to the family home in Malpas, Newport.

Chantelle, an accountant, said: “It’s so nice to do normal family things and be together under the one roof.” Robyn endured , 16 blood transfusions, lumbar punctures and abdominal surgery.

She needs 24-hour care because of her complex medical needs.

Daniel, a bricklayer, said: “We know with Robyn nothing is impossible because she’s been told so many times she’s isn’t going do this and she won’t survive this and she does.”

Her parents are hoping to raise £100,000 for her care.
