Ex-Liverpool forward is having a challenging season with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli. The Brazilian, who , had an impressive eight-year stint at Anfield, scoring 111 goals in 362 appearances and clinching six major trophies under Jurgen Klopp.
After moving to Al-Ahli, he was appointed club captain and scored nine goals in his debut season. However, this term has been more difficult for Firmino, who has only netted three times so far, with Al-Ahli currently sitting in eighth place in the league.
On Friday, Firmino's side drew 1-1 with Al-Akhdoud, a match that saw ex-Man City star Riyad Mahrez score. Following the game, former Al-Ahli player Hussein Abdulghani suggested that Firmino should be replaced as captain by former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Despite criticising Mendy early in his career, Abdulghani now believes he should wear the captain's armband, telling : "Edouard] Mendy's injury is a big loss... but now I demand that he be the captain."
Firmino was also taken off in the 85th minute during Al-Ahli's recent draw. The ex-Liverpool star's next chance to play for his club will be against Al-Ittihad on Thursday, a team that boasts former Reds midfielder Fabinho in their ranks.
