A woman is fighting for her life in a coma after she sustained a serious brain injury from a fall during her holiday .

Stacey Callan, a mum-of-two from Drogheda, Co Louth who was on holiday with her partner and children earlier this month, is now comatose in a Turkish hospital, her relatives have disclosed. Describing the incident on social media, a family member said: "It was a bad fall that caused the brain to bleed. She had brain surgery and is still in ICU."

In response to the dire situation and the financial strain it has imposed, titled 'Save Our Stacey' has been set up. The fundraiser aims to alleviate the financial pressures on Stacey and her loved ones and has already amassed close to €24,000 (£19,983).

The Go Fund Me appeal, initiated by Joanne and Wendy, reads: "Our names are Joanne and Wendy and we're trying to raise funds to help our family member Stacey," and further explains the gravity of the situation: "We never thought we would have to write this but in October 2024 Stacey Callan suffered a serious brain injury following a fall, whilst on holiday with her partner and two young children."

Adding to their plight, the family reveals that despite having travel insurance, they are currently without support as the : "Stacey is currently in a coma in a hospital in Turkey. Whilst Stacey and her family took out travel insurance, the insurance company is refusing to pay out at this time.", reports .

The family's message concludes with a plea for public support: "We will continue to work with the insurance company to resolve any queries they may have but we're urgently asking for your help to reduce the overwhelming financial burden of this tragic accident for Stacey and her family, so they can focus on Stacey's recovery."

"Stacey has a long road to recovery ahead of her, she has been in for the last five days and the current charges for this stands at €20,000 (£16,653) and looking at €2,000 (£1,665) per day going forward. Any donation made, would be very greatly appreciated."

Additional fundraisers have also been organised, including a Benefit Night for Stacey scheduled for Saturday, October 26 at Greenmount House, Drogheda at 8.30pm. A Coffee Morning is also planned at The Market House, Dunleer in Co Louth on Sunday, October 27 from 11.30am.
